United Wholesale (Scotland)

United Wholesale (Scotland) was formed in 2002 when Mohammad Sarwar demerged the operation from United Wholesale Grocers after a disagreement with his brother, and then business partner, Mohammad Ramzan. The cash-and-carry company was founded in the 1970s and now trades as UWS, selling wholesale groceries and frozen food. Mohammad Sarwar was elected as Britain’s first Muslim MP in 1997. Sales reached £152.2m in 2009.
