Founded by experienced entrepreneur Moni Varma in 2005 with £10m of start-up capital, this Kent company makes its own “Dine In” microwaveable rice trays. It claims to have developed a way of cooking natural white rice on an industrial scale while maintaining high taste quality. The company sells 25m of these rice trays each year. A separate entity from other businesses owned by Varma, Veetee Foods has grown sales 164% a year, from £607,000 in 2007 to £11.1m in 2010, with very good profit margins. It now plans to expand its range with pasta, curry and other ready meals, which will have a shelf life of six months in the chiller cabinet.
