Lord Vestey heads the company that was established in 1897 from a family butchery in Liverpool. The Vesteys were one of the first importers of frozen meat from their own ranches in South America, where the family still has significant farming interests. Competition from supermarkets in the 1990s led to the sale of its Dewhurst chain of butchers and its shipping lines. The company now trades food products through Angliss International. Sales reached £455m in 2005.
