Chris Davies, 68, paid one rand in 1996 to buy an ailing South African factory making wash basins, and now runs a luxury bath business which made profits of £6m in 2014. The Telford-headquartered company uses its unique “volcanic limestone” material to make high-end alternatives to other cast iron or acrylic baths on the market. Still manufacturing in South Africa, exports accounted for 90% of its £18m sales in 2014, with the US its biggest market.
