Belfast-based Viridian is the leading electricity supplier to households across Northern Ireland. Its Viridian Power & Energy subsidiary provides power to businesses and runs the Huntstown power stations near Dublin, which can supply 17% of the whole of Ireland’s electricity needs. Arcapita, the Bahrain private-equity firm, bought the company in December 2006, delisting it from the London and Irish stock exchanges for £1.6 billion. Sales were £1,022m in 2007. It is led by chief executive Patrick Bourke.
