The idea of bringing opticians into care homes for the elderly led three Glasgow businessmen, already colleagues in a care-home business, to set up Vision Call. The company claims to have 67% of the care-home market in Scotland and, after acquiring another eyecare firm in 2005, has clients in 4,000 care homes across Britain. Next is the launch of its Specs at Home service, due in January. This will serve people who are confined to their homes. Sales at Vision Call have risen 96% a year from £785,000 in 2003 to £5.9m in 2006.
