The metabolic disorder phenylketonuria affects one in 10,000 people in Britain and is one of the few genetic diseases that can be controlled by diet. Vitaflo produces drinks and gels that help patients to achieve the correct balance of nutrients. The Liverpool company, launched in 1988, also makes products to treat disease-related malnutrition. Sales have risen 42% a year from £2.7m in 2004 to £7.9m in 2007, as the firm looks to diversify its product range.
