VSG says that a positive attitude to service – many of its security guards will also do some cleaning – has driven sales growth of 131% a year. It has contracts with B&Q, Exel and Abbey, protecting shopping centres, factories and distribution centres nationally. The firm was founded by William Muskin, a former policeman who retired from the force at 40 after being injured. His success in winning larger contracts – including a £10m deal with B&Q this year – has boosted sales from an annualised £2.6m in 2001 to £31.5m in 2004.
