Formed in 2003 when SBC International bought 36 cinemas from Warner Village, the chain claims to attract 35m customers a year to its 644 screens countrywide. Following on from the success of its “concert experience” screenings, where customers were able to watch the likes of Take That and the Foo Fighters, the London-based company recently broadcast live opera and ballet from its cinemas. In June 2006, chief executive Tim Richards led a £350m secondary buyout. Sales grew to £247.3m in 2008.
