Vue reports that 2009 was a record year for British cinemas, and it expects 2010 to be even better. Its 70 cinemas have more than 142,000 seats and attract in excess of 38m customers every year. A further 10 sites are expected to open over the next two to three years. Vue reckons that its new Westfield site in London, which opened in February, is Europe’s largest all-digital cinema. The company was formed in 2003 when SBC International bought 36 cinemas from Warner Village for a reported £250m. Chief executive Tim Richards oversaw sales of £272m in 2009.
