Vue Entertainment founder and chief executive Tim Richards set up the business in 2003 when his company, SBC International Cinemas, bought 36 cinemas from Warner Villages for £250m. The firm is majority owned by private-equity house Doughty Hanson and now has 70 cinemas in Britain and Ireland, including the 17-screen all-digital venue that opened at the Westfield shopping centre, adjacent to the London Olympic Park in Stratford, east London, last September. Vue, headquartered in Chiswick, west London, was boosted by a record year for British cinemas two years ago and profits rose 50% a year, from £11.3m in 2007 to £38.1m in 2010.
