Vue reports that 2010 was a record year for British cinemas, boosted by the release of a number of 3D films. To capitalise on this enthusiasm, the company is digitising its 70 cinemas and extending its 3D, super-sized screens across its estate. Its flagship multiplex at Westfield, west London, is Europe’s largest all-digital cinema, and is soon to be followed by a similar establishment in the Olympic Park. Doughty Hanson bought the company last December for a reported £450m with plans for European expansion. Chief executive Tim Richards oversaw sales of £308.4m in 2010.
