This Newport company distributes gas to firms and 7.4m people living in Wales and southwest England using 35,000km of pipelines. It is also responsible for laying new gas pipes and replacing and moving pipes and meters. Formerly part of National Grid Transco, Wales & West Utilities was formed in 2005 when a consortium led by Macquarie European Infrastructure Funds bought the network for £1.2 billion. Sales were £314.1m in 2010 under chief executive Graham Edwards.
