Wates specialises in construction and refurbishment projects covering a wide range of buildings, from prisons and affordable homes to schools and shops. It recently won a contract to install 67 “click-and-collect” points in Asda car parks, where customers pick up groceries ordered online. The Surrey-headquartered firm was founded by Edward Wates in 1897 and is owned and run by his descendants. James Wates, 53, became non-executive chairman in April.
