This family-run bakery has more than 70 stores in Northwest London and the home counties. Since the start of the pandemic, it has opened eight new stores and seen rising demand online, with sales via delivery partner Just Eat up 900%. Wenzel’s says it has invested more than £2m in new machinery and better infrastructure and has developed a data analytics system to manage areas of the business such as stock and payroll. Profits climbed to £3.3m in the year to March 2020 and are expected to hit £4m this year. Chief executive Peter Wenzel, 77, founded the firm in 1975 and his daughter, Sarah, 42, is managing director. The Watford-based company plans to grow its estate to 100 stores in two years.
