From lockers and library shelves to pallet racks and drawer cabinets, Whittan Storage Systems designs, manufactures and installs storage equipment used in schools, museums, shops, factories and leisure facilities. In July 2002 the Telford company, which has factories across Britain, Spain, Belgium and Holland, was acquired by the private-equity group Permira for about £60m. Under chief executive Mel Bailey, Whittan Storage Systems has boosted its business in Europe and improved its manufacturing efficiency. It had sales of £137.4m in the year to March 2005.
