This Speyside firm produces some of the best-known whiskies in the world, including the global top-selling single malt Glenfiddich, the premium Balvenie and the blended Grant’s. Although steeped in whisky history, the family-owned distiller prides itself on being innovative and has created modern brands such as Hendrick’s gin, Sailor Jerry rum, Monkey Shoulder triple malt whisky, Reyka vodka and Milagro tequila. William Grant has a 30% stake in Highland Distillers and paid £260m for the spirits and liqueurs arm of Irish group C&C last year. Sales in 2009 reached £838m under chief executive Stella David.
