Sainsbury, Tesco, and overseas retailers that serve British expatriates stock Aunt Bessie’s frozen Yorkshire puddings, one of the convenience dishes made by the fifth-generation Oughtred family business William Jackson & Son. The Hull company has three divisions. Tryton Foods makes Aunt Bessie’s frozen products; Jackson’s Bakery bakes speciality breads; and Kwok’s Foods produces Oriental dishes for British supermarkets. Last year the Oughtreds sold their Jackson’s Stores chain of corner shops to Sainsbury for £78m. Profits rose by 131% a year from £605,000 in 2001 to £7.4m in 2004.
