William Price founded his Walsall bakery in 1879. Today it produces 3m loaves of bread a week for the likes of Sainsbury and Tesco and also makes most of the croissants and part-baked French baguettes sold in British supermarkets. Its profits have grown 31% a year from £2.3m in 1997 to £5.1m in 2000, when it employed 1,499 people.
