This Belfast firm was founded in 1896 as a grain merchant, but now also has interests in oils and molasses as well as packaging, animal feeds, storage and horse breeding. Sales grew 10% last year to £1.4bn, helped by poor weather in 2018 that pushed up demand — and prices — for its agricultural commodities. However, in April it reported trading activity had weakened. The fourthgeneration family-owned company is chaired by Robert Barnett, 76. His son, William, 43, is chief executive.
