Founded 40 years ago, The Garden Centre Group now operates 119 sites, all separately branded but with most bearing a common leaf motif. The group is owned by a consortium led by Lloyds TSB, which bought it for £311m in 2006. Two years later the company refinanced its debt and brought in new management led by chief executive Nicholas Marshall. The owners are looking to sell the business, whose profits turned round to £22m in 2009 compared with £200,000 in the previous year, on sales of £251.4m.
