Former professional rugby player Jon Wright, 44, founded this chain of budget gyms when his initial attempt to start a traditional health club stalled during the credit crunch. The company now runs 34 gyms around the UK from its base in Leeds, up from three in 2011.The popularity of working out cheaply has helped sales climb to £21.8m this year. Xercise4less’s expansion has been aided by £12m of funding from Business Growth Fund, which owns a minority stake. The company plans to have 100 gyms in the UK and continental Europe by the end of 2017.
